I am an entry level Cosmetologist just got my lic in 2008. My passion is Haircoloring, Haircutting, and Hairstyling. I am so excited about my new career. I would like to have a mentor in my life that I can look up to and even assit with any type of work. I want to learn, learn, learn. I am very passionate and ready to learn all I can.

As for Vern Cutting you can go to vernshears.com I will be teaching a class in Boca Raton on Sunday June 21st. Its $145.00 and includes a great lunch, mannequins and if you want to get any of the shears the $145 goes toward them. It will be all day training. Let me know. Also we will be at the Orlando show at the Harmonix booth. Hope to see you. And as regards Joseph try to go to anything he does photoshoots, classes , whatever. He has an addictive passion!

You have a few things to think about. The fact that your on this kind of site early in your career and the fact that you seem worried about getting a job at a place like Suppercuts tells me that your worried about your image and that is a good thing. For every stylist on this site interested in the latest looks, meeting other stylists and bettering themselves there are twenty more that do not. This industry needs more stylists like you that care about there image. The only good thing I will say about places like Supper cuts is that they allow you to start the experience right out of school-cutting and coloring but if your doing something wrong there is usually no one there that will let you know and so you start of bad. I'll tell you what my husband told me years ago and I tell my students and apprentices the same "Its better to sweep the floors at a place like Fredrick Fikki's that to be the head stylist at Mastercuts". remember once people know you in an area you will get an image that is hard to brake. That advice is as old as the Bible. There is a scripture where Jesus said that "a prophet is not respected in his hometown." That is because once people see you and relate you to a certain place it is hard for them to get rid of that image. You sound like someone who really wants to do well in this industry so be careful how you start off.

Hi Selines, the best thing I think you can do is to get on with a team. I was able to get on with L'Oreal and then all of the education was free. Plus you are able to met so many interesting, talented people and also all the great shows that you can help out with. That is the way I got started. You should talk with the different product reps that come into the salon and see what they have to offer many times they will look for artits that what to become educators. What are the products your salon uses?

Thank you so much for the compliment. The truth is I'm a perfectionist that always criticizes my work. I personally dislike the term "Master", you'll always stay at the top of your game if always remember that mastery is an ever moving target. If you feel that you have reached "IT" then its probably time to move on to something else. I learn something new everyday sometimes by someone who just came out of school or with only a few years of education but I have no problem asking them "Hey can you show me that?", or "Where did you see that?" Stay humble, its a beautiful industry your in!
